These two iterations of the series, Living on the Edge, and collected under the heading “Notes from the Coast,” have two visual representations: the first, or Volume 1, is a collection of images that for me, defined the community at Roy Carpenter’s Beach (aka Roy’s) in Matunuck, RI, as I saw it, from 2005 to 2015. Volume 2 is a more inclusive series, albeit with some duplicates from Volume 1, that covers the community from 2005 through 2024. Volume 2 constitutes a show about Roy’s that was first hung at the Coastal Ecology Center Gallery at the Wells Reserve, in Wells, ME.
All of these photographs are my way of taking notes about the state of the coastline, as it evolves, specifically on Rhode Island’s southern coast. They are meant to mark where we have been and where we are, most likely, going.
